Fear. Google says fear is an emotion. Others believe fear is an acronym standing for false evidence appearing real. Or fear is an unrealistic emotion about the unknown. All of these points are true in there own way but no matter how you interpret fear it is needed. Fear is needed to keep our body alert and to tell our body whether or not to go in a flight or fight mode. Except to to have too much fear is bad, this can hold people back cause mental illness and phobias that make it difficult for people to do basic actions.
A way fear holds people back is by the fear of death. Everyone is afraid of death because it’s the unknown, but why. 70% of Americans that are religious are Christians, 20% are Catholics, the last 10% believes in other smaller religions. This means if a big part of the U.S. believes in a peaceful afterlife so why do we fear it. Once in my life when I was 5 or 6 let the fear of death change my judgment on life.
To explain, when I was 3 I had back problems which would cause me unable to move or walk. I would also constantly have fevers of a 105 and my mom took me to multiple hospital in the time span of a year. In the beginning doctors said, “ It was growing pains.” and we went to the hospital so much the doctors ended up saying I was faking it for attention. Later on someone told my mom to try Sacred Heart in Pensacola and when we went a doctor overheard some nurses talking about my condition and he said it sounded like I had leukemia. I got tested for it and I did, the pain in my back was caused by a tomber pressing up against my disc. The tomber got removed my disc collapse but now it’s fine. I had leukemia until I was 7, where I got into remission and it’s been 5 years so I’m officially in the clear. But to get where I am now wasn’t easy. When I was in hospital I asked my mom why does God want me to die. She told me he doesn’t he has a purpose for me. It’s interesting how we let the fear of a peaceful place with no suffering hold us back from living life.
Fear also plays a helping hand in depression. Whether or not the fear was about how people may treat them or the fear of going home. About 90% of suicides are caused by mental illness and depression is number one. There are about 121 suicides every day. All of them had felt fear at one point even if it was just for a second or it was a panic attack.
There is a way to overcome fear it may not be easy but there is a way to overpower fear and take control of your life because all fear is is an emotion right. Now phobias are something that be
gotten over but they are a little bit harder because phobias are usually caused by traumatic experience. Phobias are irrational fear and about 19.2 million people in America have a specific phobia. For example mysophobia the fear of germs. Trypophobia is the fear of holes like honeycombs, pomegranate seeds, or the holes in a hand.Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia the fear of long words which is very ironic. Cathisophobia the fear of sitting and lastly chrematophobia the fear of money. Some phobias are dumb sounding and others can be understand. It doesn’t matter what the phobia is but it makes it hard to perform daily tasks like sitting try go one day and not sit. Fear is the main cause behind this and we can’t get rid of fear it’s like trying to get rid of
happiness. You can’t but there is a thin line between living with fear and fear living.
